Product Introduction
Background
Balanced Salt Solution (Physiological Solution) have the properties of buffer solution (regulate pH), normal saline (maintain osmotic pressure) and culture medium (provide nutrition). It can meet the basic needs of survival and metabolism of tissues, organs or cells in vitro. A small amount of phenolic red was added to some equilibrium salt solutions to indicate the pH change of the solution.
Dulbecco's Phosphate Buffered Saline (DPBS) is one of the most widely used equilibrium salt solutions in biochemistry. The main components are NaCl, KCl, KH₂PO₄ and Na₂HPO₄. DPBS can be divided into two types according to whether contain calcium and magnesium. Different from conventional PBS, DPBS phosphate content was slightly lower. DPBS was mainly used for embryological research.

FAQs

Q:1 What is the difference between PBS and DPBS?
AnswerPBS and DPBS both primarily consist of NaCl, KCl, KH₂PO₄, and Na₂HPO₄. Both solutions are available in formulations with or without calcium and magnesium ions; solutions containing calcium and magnesium ions should not be used for cell digestion. DPBS (PB180329) has a composition similar to PBS (PB180327). PB180330, PB180331, and PB180332 have reduced phosphate content compared with standard PBS formulations. DPBS is available in formulations with or without phenol red. DPBS (PB180332) contains glucose; refer to the formulation specifications for proper differentiation. In general, when no specific requirements are present and the solution is used solely for cell washing, both DPBS (PB180329) and PBS (PB180327) are suitable.

Q:2 What is the difference between DPBS and D-HBSS?
AnswerDPBS mainly contains a phosphate buffer system, sodium chloride, potassium ions, calcium ions, magnesium ions, and a small amount of glucose. Its phosphate content is relatively lower than that of PBS, and depending on the specific formulation, it may not contain calcium and magnesium ions to meet specific cell culture requirements and reduce potential interference of calcium and magnesium ions in cell experiments. D-HBSS is also a buffered salt solution designed to mimic extracellular fluid ion concentrations. It contains sodium, potassium, chloride, phosphate, bicarbonate, glucose, etc., but it typically does not contain calcium and magnesium ions. D-HBSS is sometimes specifically labeled as calcium-and-magnesium-free (D-Hanks) to suit experiments that are sensitive to calcium and magnesium ions. DPBS is widely used for cell washing, preparation of cell culture media, cell resuscitation, washing prior to cryopreservation, and as a diluent in experiments. Its flexible formulation makes it suitable for the maintenance and processing of various types of cells. D-HBSS is commonly used for the short-term maintenance of cells, temporary washing during medium changes, or as a supporting solution for short-term cell survival in certain experiments, especially those requiring strict control of calcium and magnesium ion concentrations.
